Automatic-Mealtime Intelligence

AI this, AI that. Everyone is talking about AI being the future, but you know what AI can’t help me do? Get dinner on the table every night. Or can it? The other day I was stressing about weekly grocery shopping and decided to ask ChatGPT to make a list for me and include two recipes. Here’s what it came up with.

Shopping List

  • Chicken breasts

  • Ground beef

  • Shrimp

  • Eggs

  • Milk

  • Yogurt

  • Cheese

  • Spinach

  • Broccoli

  • Carrots

  • Bell peppers

  • Onions

  • Garlic

  • Tomatoes

  • Pasta

  • Rice

  • Bread

  • Olive oil

  • Salt

  • Pepper

Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli Pasta

Ingredients:

1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 head broccoli, cut into florets

1 pound pasta

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  • Cook the pasta according to package instructions, adding the broccoli florets to the pot during the last 5 minutes of cooking time.

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.

  • Add the shrimp to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through.

  • Drain the pasta and broccoli and add it to the skillet with the shrimp and garlic. Toss everything together until it is well coated with the olive oil and garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Cheesy Beef and Vegetable Casserole

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef

1 onion, chopped

1 bell pepper, chopped

2 carrots, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can diced tomatoes

1 cup shredded cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.

  • Add the onion, bell pepper, and carrots to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until they start to soften.

  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  • Add the can of diced tomatoes to the skillet and stir everything together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with the shredded cheese.

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.

Not a bad list—and these meals look tasty. Unfortunately, someone still needs to cook them. So I’ll go do that for now, but if you try using the ChatGPT shopping list and recipes, let me know how it turns out!
