4 Tips To Help You Get More Done
I think by and large most of us are on a mission to be as productive as possible both at work and at home each day, but time catches up with even the best of us.
I often find myself looking for ways to be more efficient and more productive. And with the February, the shortest month of the year, upon us, I’m feeling the squeeze now more than ever. That’s why I did some research and put together this quick list of ways to increase my productivity. I thought you might find them useful as well. Enjoy!
To-Do List
One of the most productive ways to get things done is by creating a to-do list. Try planning out your day the afternoon or evening before. Write down the most important tasks you need to get done the next day. Make sure you don’t overload yourself. While it’s good to have a running list of all the tasks you need to do, it doesn’t make sense to overcommit yourself with a to-do list that is two miles long.
Plan Projects/Itemize Tasks
Planning projects properly is an important part of being productive. It’s easier to move mountains when you break them up into smaller rocks and pebbles. Try creating postcards for each task related to a project. Then, post them on a bulletin board with columns marked to-do, doing, done. This approach, called Kanban, originated with Toyota, and will help you visualize all the work necessary to complete your projects.
Stop Multitasking
The truth is that people are awful at multitasking. We often think that we’re good at it, but it actually costs us valuable efficiency points to switch between two projects. It is better to see a single task to completion before completing the next if you truly want to be productive.
Time Blocking
Setting aside specific blocks of time to work on projects will help you track where your time is going. You can also limit the amount of time you will devote to a single task.
So get to it! I know you can achieve just as much or more this month as any other month. As Amelia Earhart said, “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.”
