Back To School Basics
It’s been a long time since I’ve gone “back to school,” but that doesn’t stop me from getting into the back-to-school spirit every year. Watching the kids get geared up for another year of learning always reminds me to apply those important lessons in school to my everyday life. Here are some of my favorites, in case you need a fresh start too:
Update Your Supplies—Who didn’t love getting freshly sharpened pencils and new notebooks at the beginning of every school year? You can recreate that exciting feeling of new school supplies simply by updating basic items you use every day, like pens and water bottles.
Pack A Healthy Lunch—The food pyramid in health case reminded us to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Channel this lesson by making sure you’re packing, or at least eating, a healthy lunch every day. That means one serving of protein, one serving of grain, one serving of fruits and vegetables. Most importantly, make sure you’re drinking lots of water.
Give Yourself A Daily Recess—Everyone deserves a break, regardless of how old they are. Take 15-20 minutes out of every day to relax and clear your head. You’ll find that taking “brain breaks” actually gives you more motivation and productivity throughout the day.
Spend Time With Friends—The best part of going to school was seeing your friends every day. Most of us don’t have that luxury anymore, but that shouldn’t stop us from getting together with our friends as often as possible.
Learn Something New—Everyone has a hobby or skill they’ve always wanted to learn or get better at. What’s stopping you from pursuing yours? Look up how to get started today and start doing it tomorrow. Set aside 2 hours a week for your new skill and see just how much you can accomplish in just one month.
Whether you’ve got little ones going back to school, you’re going back yourself or you’re enjoying the back-to-school season, I hope these tips help you embrace a mindset of lifelong learning.
