Summer Safety

Safety is important no matter what time of year it is. But with all the fun of summer I feel like people forget about safety more often than the other seasons. Since I know a safe summer is a happy summer, I’m sharing my top summertime safety tips for you to share with your family.

Wear Sunglasses—Everyone in your family should have a pair of sunglasses from baby to grandparents. Sunglasses are so much more than a cool accessory. They’re also an effective way to protect your eyes from sun damage.

Drink More Water—You probably hear people telling you to drink more water all year long, but staying hydrated is especially important in the summer. As you sweat in the summer you need to drink extra water to make up for the extra water you’re losing.

Use Bug Spray—Summer is bug season. From mosquitos to ticks, you wanna make sure your family is wearing bug spray whenever you’re spending long periods of time outside.

Take Breaks In The Shade—When it’s hot outside, make sure your family is taking frequent breaks in the shade. In fact, when you’re going to the beach or the park, you could even pack your own umbrella to make your own shade.

Apply Sunscreen Often—Not only should you wear sunscreen every time you’re in the sun, but you should also reapply every two hours. There’s no such thing as too much sunscreen because nothing puts a damper on your summer like a sunburn.

Play In The Water—You don’t need to live near a beach to have a splashin’ summer. On a hot day fill up some water balloons and water guns and host a water fight. Everyone’s a winner when you’re playing with water on a hot day.

Pick Safe Shoes—I know it’s easy to slip on flip flops and run out the door, but you and your family will be safer choosing studier shoes. Instead of flip flops, opt for sandals with ankle support or a breathable pair of sneakers. These shoes will keep your feet better protected from tripping, ankle twisting and toe stubbing.

I hope with these safety tips you and your family have a safe summer. But don’t forget to have fun while you’re at it!
